Straight Fire: Josh Hawley Just Blisters Alejandro Mayorkas Over Laken Riley Case During Hearing

As RedState reported, the Senate impeachment trial for Dept. of Homeland Security Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas was denied Wednesday thanks to cowardly Democrats led by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who nuked two centuries of Senate precedent in an effort to save Joe Biden's bacon headed into November.

In an impassioned speech, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) made one of the most important points in standing in opposition to Schumer's machinations, correctly noting that Mayorkas had indeed been accused of impeachable offenses including "knowingly making false statements."

"If this is not a high crime and misdemeanor, what is? If this is not impeachable, what is? What precedent will we be setting?" Lee rhetorically asked his colleagues as Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) attempted to shush him.

As one might imagine, the inability to try the impeached Mayorkas also isn't sitting well with other Republican Senators including Josh Hawley (MO), who absolutely brought the fire during a Thursday Senate Judiciary Committee hearing where Mayorkas was scheduled to testify.

The February murder of 22-year-old Augusta University nursing student Laken Riley was front and center for Hawley, who brought the receipts on her case as well as her alleged killer, 26-year-old Venezuelan illegal immigrant Jose Antonio Ibarra, in making a larger point about how the open border policies of Biden and Mayorkas are causing Americans to be hurt and in some cases killed:

The seven-and-a-half-minute clip below, which is an indictment not just of Mayorkas and Biden but also of every House and Senate Democrat who has enabled their abject failures on the border crisis, is well worth watching in full:

As we also reported, a week ago Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) confronted Mayorkas as well during a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, trying to get him to admit that the reason our borders are so porous is because it could potentially help Democrats when it came to reapportionment:

"It's a fact and I know it: that the more people you allow into our country illegally the more people are counted for reapportionment, and the more people that you allow into our country illegally the more people are counted for allocating electoral votes," he reiterated. "Now maybe that's a coincidence, but that's fact. You know that, and you've done nothing for four years: nada, zero, zilch."

Sen. Kennedy still wasn't done. "The only people I know in this country who are better off today than they were four years ago are illegal immigrants," he noted. "And that's as a result of your policy. I don't hate you for it, I don't hate anyone, but that's why you've been impeached," Sen. Kennedy reminded. "And my colleagues may try to cover it up, but they can't cover up the facts."

Mayorkas might have escaped an impeachment trial, but Republican Senators are making clear that it does not mean he is going to be let off the hook. By the time all of these Senate committee hearings are said and done, Mayorkas may end up wishing the trial did take place after all if for no other reason than to escape the daily smackdowns.
