Judicial Watch's Tom Fitton Says Steele Dossier Was 'Laundered' Through Obama State Dept.

A lingering question about the Russia collusion counterintelligence probe into the Trump campaign — one gaining urgency now as the investigations into the origins of that probe heat up — is just who knew about it and how much it was facilitated through federal agencies.

Judicial Watch, prolific in their Freedom of Information lawsuits requesting documents related to the probe, has just released information via The Daily Caller News Foundation that show the Obama State Department also worked on Steele’s dossier, joining the already-known cast of players at the Department of Justice.

According to TownHall, DCNF and JW released documents Wednesday “showing a senior State Department official worked with House Majority Leader (Minority Whip at the time) Steny Hoyer in 2016 on Russia documents provided by British spy Christopher Steele. ”

“Judicial Watch and the Daily Caller News Foundation today released 18 pages of documents revealing former Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and Special Coordinator for Libya Jonathan Winer coordinating with then-House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer’s (D-MD) national security advisor, Daniel Silverberg to work on Russia dossier materials provided by Christopher Steele,” Judicial Watch released.

The documents were obtained through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit after requests for communications about the dossier were ignored by State Department officials. They show direct conversations between Fusion GPS’ Glenn Simpson, Winer and Nuland about getting together for a meeting about a “Russia related issue.”

From Hoyer’s office, Daniel Silverberg praised Nuland’s work on the issue and called her a “warrior.”

“It was a delight to speak today, notwithstanding the context. You’ve been a warrior on these issues, and I look forward to speaking further to preserve and wherever possible strengthen the important work you have done. I’ll follow up regarding a possible working group meeting,” Silverberg wrote to Nuland on November 28, 2016.

JW President Tom Fitton himself went on Hannity and explained how he believed the dossier was “laundered” through the State Department. “It was all hands on deck in terms of targeting President Trump,” Fitton said.

He also notes that Steele has a “long-time” relationship with members of Obama’s State Department and that he believes some members of Congress may have been aware of the dossier and its movements through federal agencies.

“I want to know what Democrats in Congress knew what and when about the dossier,” Fitton told Hannity. “It’s pretty clear they were in on it.”
