Moore to the Point - Bed, Bath, and Begone

Shopping isn’t among my favorite things to do, though I don’t loathe it if I have an idea of what I’m looking for and where to get it. That latter factor is becoming increasingly challenging in the wake of major retailer after major retailer waving the white flag and closing up shop.

It’s true that retailers come and go. The two I worked at while in high school – Fashion Gal and Ups ‘n Downs – are long since extinct. But some more recent closures have really stung this creature of habit. Pier 1 used to be my go-to for unique gifts, decorative homeware, and even furniture. Their announced end came close to making me cry, though I at least took some solace in World Market hanging around.

For years, Bed Bath & Beyond could be counted on for all manner of useful home goods – often with more variety and a better price than Target. Now, the Triple B is closing its doors as well. I ventured to my local store on Saturday – a location I’ve been to countless times in the past 25 years. Unsurprisingly, the shelves are a might bare, though signs announcing close-out discounts and all sales final are plentiful.

Not going to lie: It made me a bit melancholy. The times, they are a-changin’.
