Moore to the Point - Presidential Fitness Award

This may seem a bit strange, but I used to love gym class as a kid. Part of that may have been due to the fact that the gym teacher at my elementary school was such a good guy — one of those teachers that most of the kids loved. Part of it may have been that I was decently athletic for a scrawny little string bean. I was little, but I could run fast, and I had pretty good arm strength relative to my size.

This meant when it came time for the Presidential Fitness Test (thanks, LBJ!), I was eager to prove myself worthy of the award.

I’m not sure what made me think of it recently, but that, in turn, made me ponder the fitness of our current president. Physically, mentally, morally – it will likely come as no surprise to know that I find him lacking in all three categories. It might come as a surprise to know I wish that weren’t the case.

I’ve grown nostalgic for the days when we could at least count on the occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to warrant the 50 Percent Award in two out of three of those categories – even if we disagreed with him politically across the board.

Call me a dreamer, but I’d like to someday get back to voting based on aspiration, not desperation.  And for a candidate worthy of the Presidential Fitness Award.
