Moore to the Point - The Fani Follies

Most court proceedings are dull and routine — not dramatic like you see on TV or in the movies. But occasionally, things can get lively. In fact, in almost 30 years as a trial attorney, I saw some real doozies: contentious court hearings, combative witnesses, obnoxious attorneys, cantankerous judges.

But I'm not sure I've ever quite seen a hearing like the one we were treated to on Thursday afternoon, in which Fulton County DA Fani Willis took the stand to testify regarding the nature of her relationship with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor her office hired to assist with the prosecution of former President Donald Trump over alleged interference in the 2020 election.

The hearing was held in response to a request from one of Trump's co-defendants in the case to have Willis removed from the case. While Willis insisted she is not on trial, on Thursday afternoon, her credibility most certainly was. And she put on one of the most bizarre performances I've ever seen from a witness.

I can't do it adequate justice in this brief commentary, but three key takeaways from Willis' testimony:

  1. Fani prefers Grey Goose to wine;
  2. She stows a LOT of cash at home; and
  3. Her 50th birthday sucked.

I almost feel for her. Almost.

But this is someone who's being relied on to prosecute a former President of the United States? Folly indeed.
