Good morning, and welcome to RedState's "Morning Minute" — a brief glimpse at which stories are trending at the moment and a look ahead at what the day may bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for news to kickstart your day.
TOP O' THE MORNIN'
Red-Hot at RedState
It's been said before, and it'll be said again, but none of this stops until Chief Justice John Roberts grows a backbone.
Harris spent well over $1 billion to lose so badly - the popular vote, the electoral vote, and every single swing state up for grabs - that it has seemingly knocked her out of the next presidential race three years away. Thank you, Trump.
They’re going to have to do a whole lot better than this, because this time (like so many others), they just look like unhinged hysterics who keep screaming that the sky is falling.

If I were running the company, someone--or, more accurately, several someones--would have been fired over this.
They Tried to Annex the United States
Fear not, though. The Pravda Media will downplay the whole affair because they were in on it. They helped.
Not One More Number: Say Their Names or Admit You Don’t Care
If our media cared as much about the real victims as they did about the headlines, if they had integrity, character, and an insatiable demand for the absolute truth, maybe we'd have answers, not just soundbites where lefties sound as though they were tough.
Lies and the lying liars who tell them should’ve been the headline for this piece.
The Internet Is Forever: Mike Flynn Has a WONDERFUL Message to John Brennan About Whistleblowers
The only thing that would feel better, we imagine, is if (hopefully when) he can send Brennan a postcard in Cell Block D.
WHAT'S ON TAP?
Today on Capitol Hill...
The House is gone, and the Senate isn't far behind, but they're still plugging away on this first Friday of August, as they work their way through the Executive Calendar and multiple Trump nominees.
At 11:00am, on Friday, August 1st, the Senate will proceed to two roll call votes on the following:
— Senate Cloakroom (@SenateCloakroom) August 1, 2025
1. Motion to invoke cloture on Executive Calendar #90 Brian Nesvik to be Director of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.
2. Confirmation of Executive Calendar #59 Casey…
For his part, President Donald Trump is urging the Senate to keep at it:
The Senate must stay in Session, taking no recess, until the entire Executive Calendar is CLEAR!!! We have to save our Country from the Lunatic Left. Republicans, for the health and safety of the USA, DO YOUR JOB, and confirm All Nominees. They should NOT BE FORCED TO WAIT. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
White House What's Up
President Trump is set to receive his intelligence briefing late Friday morning. In the afternoon, he'll head to Bedminster, New Jersey, for the weekend. Currently, there are no public events on his schedule for Saturday or Sunday.
Of course, today is the tariff deadline — we'll be keeping an eye on related developments on that front.
Full Court Press...
Thursday was a somewhat quieter day on the court-ruling front, but there was still a wild one out of the Northern District of California on the Temporary Protected Status front. Bonchie has more on that:
The Federal Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral argument on Thursday regarding a number of the Trump tariffs in the consolidated cases of V.O.S. Selections, Inc. v. Trump and State of Oregon v. Trump. There's no way to predict how quickly they'll issue their decision, but that's one to watch.
COMING ATTRACTIONS
It's hard to believe we're already in August — that means the Congress critters will likely be on the quiet side (assuming the Senate doesn't remain in session), though I expect they'll be poking their heads up here and there.
We will, no doubt, continue to see court rulings on the various Trump administration actions and challenges — some wild, some expected.
We'll be keeping an eye out for more trade deals, as well as more document disclosures out of ODNI.
And I don't even want to hazard a guess as to what we may see on the Russia front. Things have gotten rather chippy there.
MORNING MUSING
One of the key evidentiary concepts in the litigation realm is "hearsay." In fact, for my first-year Evidence class in law school, virtually the entire class was devoted to learning the ins and outs of hearsay. (Might have been because my professor wrote the book on it.) In any event, it's legally defined as "an out-of-court statement offered in court to prove the truth of the matter asserted." So, for instance, I might not be able to testify that Joe called me on Friday and said he was leaving the country to prove that he left the country — but my testimony could still be allowed to show that Joe was alive on Friday.
I spent much of Thursday poring through the infamous "Durham Annex" once it was released.
READ MORE: NEW: The Durham Annex Is Out and It's a Doozy
There are a lot of juicy tidbits in there regarding various plotting and planning the Hillary Clinton campaign was allegedly engaged in, aimed at smearing then-candidate Donald Trump. The problem is that much of the information in the annex consists of summaries (prepared by Russians and translated, at least once) of purported hacked communications between various campaign staff, Democrat donors, think-tank personnel, etc., rather than the actual original emails themselves. So...unless/until those original emails can be located and authenticated, you have to take what's contained in those summaries with a grain of salt. In other words, you can't rely on them to "prove the truth of the matters asserted" therein. That's important to keep in mind.
What you can do, though, is recognize that whether or not the information contained in those summaries is verifiably accurate, what's irrefutable is that the FBI had its hands on the information in early-mid 2016 and, yet, did virtually nothing to verify (or refute) it, but instead decided to go full steam ahead on its Crossfire Hurricane investigation into Trump. And the truth of the matter is that THAT, my friends, is fairly damning.
