Trey Gowdy Joins Team Trump to Fight Impeachment

In a sign that the White House is intent upon forcing an impeachment hearing by the Democrat House of Representative, former South Carolina Representative Trey Gowdy has signed on as outside counsel to assist the White House in fighting impeachment. This move became public shortly after the White House ordered the US ambassador to the EU to ignore a “subpoena” from the House and announced that it would not cooperate in any way, shape or form with the political theater being directed by Adam Schiff and ~~Jabba the Hut~~ Jerry Nadler. In this role, Gowdy will provide outside advice to the White House but will not be a formal part of the White House legal team.

Gowdy will bring strong contacts within the House, more than that he will bring an encyclopedic knowledge of the tactics a White House–or a House minority party–can use to stymie a Congressional investigation having been on the receiving end of that when he led the Benghazi investigation.

The one thing you’re going to see aimed at Gowdy is a charge of hypocrisy. While chairing the House Oversight Committee he opined, “The notion that you can withhold information and documents from Congress no matter whether you’re the party in power or not in power is wrong. Respect for the rule of law must mean something irrespective of the vicissitudes of political cycles.”

I think that line of argumentation is stupid because our system of justice is based upon the inherent right of a person to defend themselves. Following this logic, a lawyer who thought murder was bad (stay with me here) shouldn’t defend an accused murderer or help appeal a murder conviction. I suspect that Gowdy, like much of America, is appalled at the House Democrats using the impeachment process in an illegitimate way to try to overturn the result of an election and to meddle in the 2020 election. He would seem to be in agreement that the White House should not cooperate with this charade, otherwise he would not have signed on. Byt, as they say, ‘a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds’ and there are minds involved here which would defy detection by an electron microscope.
