Apparently, there is a fantasy on the left that being the son of a Democrat politician gets you to carry the Immunity Idol when it comes to felony investigations because, the reasoning goes, to indict a Democrat politician’s kid might hurt that politician’s chances for election and that would be a “thing of value” to the Republican in the race and therefore a violation of campaign finance law. I know, it sounds absolutely insane and very much like they think they are like the medieval First (clergy) and Second (nobility) Estates and immune from the same legal system that the rest of us labor under. That notion will soon be put to the test.
My colleague, Elizabeth Vaughn, posted earlier today on how Ukraine had reenergized the investigation into Burisma and Hunter Biden even after Joe Biden threatened to halt aid Ukraine needed to withstand Russian attack unless they gave his son a free pass.
Based on what we know right now, it is pretty safe to say that Hunter Biden got his $50,000/month job as a non-employee member of the board of directors of Burisma as part of an influence peddling scheme. Not only did both Biden’s travel to Ukraine.
We know that not only was Hunter Biden outrageously overcompensated by industry standards but that his compensation was all cash where the usual compensation package has a significant stock component.
Let’s just suppose that we can believe our own lyin’ eyes and assume that Hunter Biden knowing less about the gas business than your average Yorkie and speaking Ukrainian/Russian just as well and being outrageously overcompensated for a do-nothing job all add up to a finding of fraud and Ukraine asks the US government to extradite him to stand trial. Should the Trump administration risk exposure to criminal liability, again, for extraditing an indicted felon? Or should it just let the US become a safe harbor for the indicted offspring of Democrat politicians?
