Well, this is stupid.

It’s not just stupid. It’s stupid, inflammatory, and meant to belittle victims of sexual misconduct.

Alex Marlow, editor-in-chief over at the alt-right launching pad of Breitbart News weighed in on the mountain of sexual misconduct cases, and frankly, he should have kept his mouth shut.

Seriously. It’s as if it was his goal to prove how crass and obnoxious he could be.

Said Marlow:

“Rape used to have a narrow definition. Rape used to have a definition where it was — it was brutality, it was forced sexual attack and penetration,” Marlow said on SiriusXM Patriot’s Breitbart News Daily, according to Media Matters.

“Now it’s become, really, any sex that the woman ends up regretting that she had.”

OH, no he didn’t.

Marlow said that “leaves us without a lot of clarity.”

Well. One thing is clear as a bell.

You’re a jackass.

I’m not going to say it’s outside the realm of possibility that some women lie about sexual abuse or misconduct. They’re human, and as humans, they’re flawed.

We are all flawed.

But when a man has a platform, such as that of Marlow, and he uses it to paint all women with such a broad brush, what sort of narrative is he attempting to create? What kind of effect does that have on others, who may be afraid to speak up because of any potential negative blowback?

Marlow continued:

“Because when words lose their meaning, then they can be manipulated,” he said. “Rape used to mean something. We used to all know what it meant. And now we don’t know what it means. And then we don’t know what’s credible and what’s not.”

Only a few of the recent revelations of sexual misconduct include claims of actual rape, so maybe Marlow is confused, uninformed, or having some sort of Freudian slip.

Whatever was going on with this performance, he was way off the mark. Is he trying to say that every woman that has come forward to make charges against Harvey Weinstein, Brett Ratner, Charlie Rose, Roy Moore, Russell Simmons, and so forth are liars?

As a society, we can’t afford to allow for such callous and casual dismissal of the claims of potential victims.

We’re seeing now the result of devaluing and attempting to silence these women. They labor with the memories and shame, until they can no longer remain quiet, then it comes in a torrent.

What we’ve also seen is that the world is full of hammer-brained idiots, willing to blame the victim, just as quickly as some are willing to condemn the accused.

Stop it.
