With Bases Loaded, One Pennsylvania School District Has an Answer to School Shootings

Yeah. That’ll work.

I mean, what are they going to do? Knock the bullets like a well-pitched curveball?

A school district in Pennsylvania are taking a proactive stance on protecting students against potential school shooters: Baseball bats.

Each teacher in the school district will be given a 16-inch bat and receive training on how to respond to a potential school shooting, Erie News Now reported on Tuesday.

Aluminum or traditional wood?

“It is the last resort,” said Millcreek School District Superintendent William Hall.  “But it is an option and something we want people to be aware of.”

If that’s the last resort, what was their first resort?

Hall goes on to call the bats “symbolic” and an “option,” in the event a teacher needs to fight back.

I don’t think these people understand what happens in a shooting.

The bats will cost the district around $1,800 to purchase and they will remain locked up in each classroom.

I wonder how well funded that particular school district is? I know the schools in my area are strapped for cash and $1,800 could go a long way, while they could bring their concealed carry weapons with them for free.

Keep in mind, school bureaucrats made this decision, but what do the parents and citizens within the community feel?

“We though just putting that one question out there would give us an idea how the community felt,” said Hall.  “It was about 70 percent to 30 percent that people would favor that, but we’re not really actively planning that right now.”

So the majority of that particular Pennsylvania community understand you’re not going to swing a bat faster than a bullet can travel, and would prefer school staff members have the option of being armed, but they were ignored.

I suppose asking them was just for the sake of curiosity.

I guess it could be worse. It could be a bucket of rocks.
