The people of 2nd congressional district sure did elect someone with some class last month.

Dan Crenshaw, who is a former United States Navy SEAL officer and the U.S. Representative-elect for Texas’s 2nd congressional district keeps showing America how to act.

Most people know about his appearance on Saturday Night Live last month after comedian Pete Davidson took a shot about the patch Crenshaw wears from an injury due to service in the United States military. Crenshaw appeared on SNL, poked some fun at Davidson and delivered a heartfelt speech about being able to forgive and not get so bent out of shape about politics.

Well, Dan Crenshaw is practicing what he preaches.

After reports came out over the weekend that Pete Davidson possibly was thinking of harming himself after an Instagram post on Saturday, Crenshaw reached out to him to let him know his life is worth living.

According to Fox News

Crenshaw, the former Navy SEAL who wears an eye-patch on his right eye after being injured by an I.E.D. in Afghanistan, was mocked by Davidson on “SNL” in November. Crenshaw told KPRC2 Houston (via The Hollywood Reporter) that he reached out to the star after seeing the 25-year-old’s social media message.

“I talked to him personally [Sunday],” he said. “We don’t go back very far. We’re not good friends. But, I think he appreciated hearing from me. I told him everyone had a purpose in this world. God put you here for a reason. It’s your job to find that purpose. And you should live that way.”

That is a class act.

Congressman-elect Crenshaw could have let this incident pass by him. He accepted the apology of Davidson last month and gained huge praise for that. Yet he chose to reach out to someone who he had briefly met and encouraged him to get through this.

That might not get political brownie points from some but it sure does show him being a decent human being.

This story hits home hard for me at this moment being in my part of the world, here in southeast Michigan, we just lost someone to suicide that was fairly well known. Metrologist Jessica Starr last week committed suicide at the age of 35.

New York Post… Jessica Starr, Fox 2 meteorologist, commits suicide at age 35

Jessica was well liked and was a personal favorite of many who watched the morning show here.

She has left a huge void in the lives of many people who were positively affected by her. Pete Davidson would leave the same void if he decided to check out early.

So would you.

We have an overriding rule here at Red State. If you want to write here you need to be PRO-LIFE. I take that to mean not only protecting lives in the womb but encouraging people to fight on even if I don’t agree with them on politics, sports or whether ketchup goes on a hot dog.

You matter.

You truly do.

So how about using the example of a guy who was just elected to Congress as a guide. If you think or know someone could use some help getting through something take some time to offer it. Even if you don’t agree with them on everything.

Give them this number which has someone available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

They are worth it and so are you.
