There Is Wild Speculation on Who Will Replace Sen. Feinstein — Why I Don't Think It Will Happen

I want to start off by saying that I know, for the family of Senator Dianne Feinstein, her staff, and those who have known, worked with her, and admired her in any capacity over her time in public office, that this is an incredibly sad time. Even when you live to the ripe old age of 90 and those around you who care know that your time is coming to an end on the Earth, when it eventually happens, it is still a moment of profound grief. Having just lost a parent myself I understand this, and my condolences are with her family and staff at this time.

Now, I know in some quarters of the political realm, my just taking the time to acknowledge that makes me some kind of squish. I'm cool with that because I'm a mix of decency and meanness -- all wrapped into one.

As most people know the senior Senator from California passed away, as we reported here at RedState earlier on Friday:. BREAKING: Sen. Dianne Feinstein Passes Away at 90.

Senator Dianne Feinstein has died at 90 years old, ABC7 Insider Phil Matier has confirmed. Her career was one of many firsts. She was the first woman president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the first woman mayor of San Francisco, and one of two of the first women elected to the U.S. Senate from California.

"Dianne Feinstein, right from the start, was an icon for women in politics," said former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Senator Chuck Schumer adds, "She's a legend. A legend in California as the first woman senator. A legend in the Senate. She was the leader on so many different issues."

Now comes the unbridled speculation of who will replace her at the hand of California Governor Gavin Newsom, who had to interrupt his gazing in the mirror at his hair to contemplate this, as my colleague Jennifer Oliver O'Connell wrote here. Who Will Gavin Newsom Choose to Replace Sen. Dianne Feinstein? From that article...

Despite the fact that Sen. Dianne Feinstein's death announcement is mere hours old, you know the halls of Sacramento are abuzz with who California Governor Gavin Newsom will choose to replace her in the Senate. When the Democrat Mafia were attempting to send Feinstein into an early retirement in 2023, heavy speculation and promotion on her replacement was given to Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Oakland).

During the 2021 Recall election, Newsom painted himself into a corner by declaring he would appoint a Black woman when Feinstein retired. Then, when Newsom was called on it and asked how this would affect the campaigns of Democrat congresspersons Adam Schiff and Katie Porter, who are clawing for the seat in 2024, Newsom made noises that it would be an "interim" appointment. Somehow Lee took umbrage over this, because she did not want to be seen as a token, writing in a Sept. 10 statement:

I am troubled by the Governor’s remarks. The idea that a Black woman should be appointed only as a caretaker to simply check a box is insulting to countless Black women across this country who have carried the Democratic Party to victory election after election.

There are currently no Black women serving in the Senate. Since 1789, there have only been two Black woman Senators, who have served a total of 10 years.

The perspective of Black women in the U.S. Senate is sorely needed -- and needed for more than a few months. Governor Newsom knows this, which is why he made the pledge in the first place.

If the Governor intends to keep his promise and appoint a Black woman to the Senate, the people of California deserve the best possible person for that job. Not a token appointment.

Black women deserve more than a participation trophy. We need a seat at the table.

Ohhhhhhh, Gavin has himself a catfight in the making. Shame that he painted himself into a corner with those idiotic boxes that Democrats love to check off.

While we have that sideshow going on, let me bring you folks up to speed on somebody whose predictions on these things are more often right than wrong.

My colleague Scott Hounsell here at RedState, who co-hosts the RedState VIP Gold Show on Wednesday nights at 8:00 p.m., right here on this site, made a prediction a month or so ago about this very subject; he startled everyone who was watching.  (If you are NOT a subscriber you can get 40 percent off right now by using the code SAVEAMERICA)

Scott boldly proclaimed that Kamala Harris, the current Vice President of the United States -- the quota pick by Joe Biden for veep, after he said he would pick a woman and someone of color -- would step down from her position to be appointed a United States Senator.

Now to put it into a fuller context, Scott and I have been speculating who is going to replace Hunter's sugar daddy as President because both of us do not believe he'll be on the 2024 ticket. Joe Biden is failing right before our eyes and while the Democrats smile and grimace in public, they want to actually keep the White House in 2024; they are going to happily throw Scranton Joe under the bus.

Scott and I are unified in our agreement on that point.

Where Scott and I differ here is that I believe Harris becomes the first female president of the United States, and then the DNC kindly pulls her aside and says: enjoy your time on Air Force One but you will not be running for reelection. This is mainly because her popularity numbers are somewhere below the fun of school kids watching hungry Eskimos beat baby seals for food.

Everyone has to eat but they don't have to like watching how the grub is made.

I simply do not see how the woman who absolutely lucked out being picked to be the running mate of the person who has become the most incompetent President of the United States that we've ever had (I'm including Warren Harding in this) will just step aside and take a lesser position.

As Dana Carvey used to say in his impersonation of George H.W. Bush, "Not going to do it."

Harris has fallen up her whole political career, and she is literally just one heartbeat or one slip away from obtaining the top political position that this country has to offer. She cannot -- and ultimately I believe, would not ever -- step down from her position as the dutifully elected Vice President of the United States.

As the Rolling Stones once wrote,"Wild horses couldn't drag me away."

So, there you have it.

My buddy and pal, Scott Hounsell made the boldest prediction next to Truman beating Dewey, after Truman held up the paper saying he had been beaten by Dewey; I don't think it has a snowball's chance in hell of coming true.

However, if it DOES come true, I know he will be insufferable on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. on the RedState VIP Gold Show, and then I will actually believe we all do live in the Matrix.
