Hakeem Jeffries' Words on Hamas Are Meaningless Until He Calls Out Rashida Tlaib for Her Comments

Someone, somewhere, once said that Words mean nothing without action, and for the part of Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries's speech Wednesday about Israel and Hamas, that was the theme.

I'm certain the rest of the speech about Joe Biden being a good President was all genuine.

Most of you who read RedState know that we do love the hotheads on both the Democrat and Republican sides because they are so much fun to watch and listen to. People like Ilhan Omar from Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib from Michigan, and even that adorable climate scientist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York are a blast to watch and then write about.

Without them, how much fun would life be?

So as most folks in the political world know, the 22-day long drought of the House not having a Speaker officially ended Wednesday with the election of Mike Johnson from Louisiana. All indications are that this is a solid pick and from our own Joe Cunningham's reaction, this is a massive reason to celebrate. Mostly because Joe is also from Louisiana. If anyone, by the way, sees Joe out in public doing whatever people in Louisiana do to celebrate, please make sure he gets home safely.

I, on the other hand, still feel that you will end up hating him because the machine of the Federal Government is bigger than one person or a caucus, and the machine demands to be fed. Get Ready to Hate Whoever the Next Speaker Is

Now, on to Minority Leader Jefferies' thrilling and full of baloney part of his speech.

We must continue to stand by President Biden as he works to bring American hostages and Israeli hostages held by Hamas back home. American hostages and Israeli hostages and international hostages back home.

We must also stand by our friends on the international stage and we have no better friend in the Middle East than the state of Israel.

Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish and democratic state the special relationship between the United States and Israel is unbreakable, our commitment to Israel's security is Ironclad and Israel has a right to defend itself under the international rules of war against the brutal terror unleashed on its citizens by Hamas.

Our ironclad commitment to Israel's security and the effort to defeat Hamas is not inconsistent with the goal of achieving a lasting and just peace between Israel and the Palestinian people In many ways it is a necessary ingredient because Hamas is not good for Israel, Hamas is not good for America, Hamas is not good for the Free World, Hamas is not good for the Democratic aspirations of the Palestinian people

He does try to sound like former President Obama -- but with even more fluff -- in his speech.

Now, why am I being so harsh with the Dems' leader?

Simple. He is afraid of the backlash of taking action.

From an article last week, talking about "SOURCES" close to Jeffries and complaints made to him about Tlaib

According to a source with knowledge of the complaints, some Jewish Democrats have privately complained to Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ team about comments from Tlaib and Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, who initially echoed reports blaming Israel for the hospital attack before posting additional context about the hospital explosion and acknowledging the US intelligence assessment. (Jeffries has embraced the US and Israeli intelligence conclusions and a spokesperson said in a statement that Jeffries, like Biden, backs Israel’s “unequivocal right to defend itself against Hamas under the established rules of war and strongly disagrees with any effort to blame President Joe Biden or the policies of his administration.”)

I'm sure those private complaints made privately were acted upon by... privately tossing them in the trash bin.

That is bravery in 2023.

Now, I'm not going to claim to be the smartest person in the world about the meaning of words but if what Hakeem Jeffries actually said there meant anything to him, then after what my colleague Sister Toldjah wrote here about what said, they would have had a sit-down and chat -- and it would be leaked publicly. Hamas Caucus Leader Rashida Tlaib Tells on Herself in Latest Statement on Blast Near Gaza Hospital.

We've written before about how unlike some of her Hamas Caucus colleagues, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) has doubled and tripled down on the claim that Israel "bombed" a Gaza hospital despite the fact that all available evidence including photos and video shows that what likely happened was the Palestinian Islamic Jihad misfired a rocket and it exploded in a nearby parking lot.

Not only is the tweet she posted on October 17 (shown below) uncritically accepting the allegation against Israel still up but during a speech she gave Wednesday during a Jews for Hamas rally just steps away from the Capitol complex, she continued to push the claim, stating without evidence that "people think it's okay to bomb a hospital where children [were]."

Israel just bombed the Baptist Hospital killing 500 Palestinians (doctors, children, patients) just like that.

@POTUS this is what happens when you refuse to facilitate a ceasefire &  help de-escalate. Your war and destruction only approach has opened my eyes and many Palestinian Americans and Muslims Americans like me. We will remember where you stood.

In an update to this story, nearly a week after the alleged "bombing" took place and well after U.S. and Israeli assessments concluded that in no way could the "bomb" have been fired by the IDF, Tlaib has issued a new statement. In it, she quadruples down and says there should be an "independent investigation," and that she can't accept the word of Israel or the United States considering they've "misled" people in the past during times of war:

That super-duper close relationship that Jeffries talked about, and how the United States and Israel share an ironclad bond, is wonderfully said.

However, you absolutely have to know that the fact thatJeffries can't call Tlaib out publicly and say, "By the way, yeah the Hamas rocket that landed in the parking lot of that hospital was actually their own," has to make the Israelis just scratch their head a little bit and think.

Maybe he does not believe what he is saying.

Hell, I know he does not believe what he is saying just by his previous actions, because actions speak much louder than wonderfully delivered words.

The Democrats, up until the election in 2024, are going to rag on the Republicans for the fight that they had over the speakership vote. And I have been on record that I had no issue with them doing this other than the timing of it. Yet at least the Republicans are willing to have their fight in public, and we get to see it and enjoy it for what it is.

Hakeem could split the difference and call her out for her words, which she has every right to believe and say, and then actually look like he believes the other side of the coin: that Israel has a right to defend itself. At least then, he would look like a leader who encourages free thought but is willing to call people out when he believes they've crossed the line.

Yet, those words he delivered Wednesday in the House chamber are as empty as that suit he was wearing. Don't get me wrong; it was a very nice suit, and it looked really well on TV.

There was just nothing behind it.
