Illinois Democrat Zealot Predicts Disastrous Climate Holocaust. He's Wrong.

This just in: On climate change, as with so many other issues of the day, the left is panicking. They're panicking because they're losing, and while political fortunes can change on the whim of the electorate, many of whom (honestly) aren't very well informed on a variety of issues, right now, the climate scolds are finding themselves shouting to smaller and smaller audiences.

Now, the Trump administration's Environmental Protection Agency has dropped the Obama-era "carbon dioxide endangerment finding," which was an industrial-sized helping of horse squeeze - and Democrats are, to put it mildly, freaking out.

One of the worst is Illinois Democrat Rep. Sean Casten, who is predicting a veritable climate holocaust, with deaths in the millions

We thought President Donald Trump was merely another Hitler. But, no, he’s also another Mao and another Stalin. Next he’ll be on his way to becoming Beelzebub himself, unless the climate fanatics can finally get a hold of themselves.

In one of the more maniacal rants we have seen, Rep. Sean Casten, an Illinois Democrat, swore before hundreds of millions that the administration’s dropping of the Obama-era Environmental Protection Agency’s carbon dioxide endangerment finding is an act of mass murder. Seems to be a lot to put on an administrative order that reverses the EPA’s ability to regulate CO2, which provided government with the veneer of “science” to pursue its EVs-for-all, gasoline-for-none crusade, promote of unreliable renewable energy sources. attack conventional energy suppliers and micromanage consumer appliance manufacturing.

“This is anti-scientific, immoral and economically irresponsible. I say this without hyperbole – when the history of this era is written, Donald Trump will have been responsible for more deaths than Stalin, Mao and Hitler combined,” Casten said last week in a particularly frothy tweeted. (sic)

Frothy isn't the word I'd use. But let's take a look at the numbers here. Joseph Stalin may have been responsible for the deaths of as many as 20 million people. Adolf Hitler may well have racked up a similar number, even when you exclude German and Allied soldiers who fell in battle. And Chairman Mao was the champ, with somewhere between 30 and 50 million dead under his iron-fisted rule.

That's about 100 million people. Sean Casten is claiming that the EPA's actions will kill off as much as a third of the population of the United States. That's foaming-at-the-mouth crazy by any evaluation.

Casten's not alone in his nutballery.

As if he didn’t expose himself enough, Casten added that he’s sure “Millions, if not billions will die if we don’t address climate change; some will survive but if rivers keep moving, coasts keep eroding, fires keep burning we will be forced to become migratory. That is a choice.”

Though it’s clearly loco, Casten’s claim is not an isolated incident. In a somewhat more measured but nonetheless irrational outburst, the author of the not-to-be-believed hockey stick chart, Michael Mann, declared that “Not since Stalin and Soviet Lysenkoism have we seen such a brazen effort to misrepresent science in service of an ideological agenda.”

Just another case of psychological projection, in which the climate zealots are accusing skeptics of using the methods they employ.

What are the facts?

The facts are that there's just plain no reason to panic. Cold weather is far more problematic for people than hot weather. Our slightly warming climate isn't causing any problems for our modern agriculture; just the opposite

Facts are stubborn things. And here are a few more: Through most of the Earth's history, it's been warmer than it is now. As recently as the Oligocene, the Earth was warm enough that there was no ice at the poles. For the past few hundred thousand years, mile-thick glaciers have been going up and down in the northern hemisphere, geologically speaking, like window blinds, and we are still in the slight warming phase coming out from the last major glaciation, the Wisconsonian.

Sean Casten, Michael Mann of the infamous hockey-stick chart, and all of their ideological brethren, are just wrong, and hysterical to boot. What's worse, they engage in one of the most staggering displays of humancentric hubris one can imagine: The notion that the planet has a "correct" temperature range, and that we can somehow figure out how to adjust Earth's thermostat.

In fact, the American people just aren't too worried about the climate. There's good reason for that; many of us are old enough to remember the '70s, when people were breathlessly discussing the impending ice age, in which presumably more mile-thick glaciers would descend upon us. They were wrong. Many more of us are old enough to remember Al Gore's panic-mongering production that the polar ice caps would be gone, melted away, by 2010, or 2015, or by whenever he has moved the goalposts to now. He was wrong.

The scolds have been wrong. They continue to be wrong, the facts show them to be wrong, and they are growing more and more hysterical as the American people are becoming more and more hip to the scam. They are fighting battles they have already lost.
