Chris Matthews: Ted Cruz "operates below the level of human life"

I kid you not. I did not make up that quote.

Chris Matthews was on with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski this morning and gave his best impression of a drunken Irishman suffering from the DTs giving political commentary.

Abbreviated transcript via RealClearPolitics:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: There’s something about [Cruz] who’s always reminded me of Joe McCarthy and there’s something that is negative and menacing.

The thing about — there is a troll-like quality to Cruz. He operates below the level of human life…

Am I allowed to have a opinion?

Let me clarify it. I think he appeals — I think he appeals to people’s negativity rather than their joy…

I don’t think people feel good about voting for Cruz, I think they feel — I don’t know what it is he appeals to. Now, people keep telling me he has inherited the libertarian crowd. I don’t see how. He doesn’t seem libertarian to me. He’s appealed to the Baptists up here, I don’t understand that. What is he, a theocrat? Maybe he is. I’m serious about the guy, there’s something that’s enlivening about these other candidates that makes you feel good.

I’ve really given up trying to figure out how Chris Matthews keeps his job. He is an out of touch old bigot who would be a continuing embarrassment to a profession that was still capable of feeling shame. How any network can let such a sorry, pustulent bag of guts continue on staff is beyond me.

And, of course, it is not much of a coincidence that this happened on Scarborough’s show considering he is obviously in the bag for Donald Trump. I’m sure if Marco Rubio jumped into one of the top two places, Scarborough would have Matthews on to complain about the way he sings “Babalú” and the kinds of shoes he wears.
