A group of House Republicans are seeking to rename one of America's most important airports after former (and possibly future) President Donald Trump.

The bill, introduced by Pennsylvania Rep. Guy Reschenthaler on Friday, was filed with the backing of six cosponsors.

"In my lifetime, our nation has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump," Reschenthaler told Fox News, which first reported the news. "As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil."

The proposed legislation states: "The Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia shall after the date of the enactment of this Act be known and designated as the ‘Donald J. Trump International Airport."

"Any reference in any law, regulation, map, document, paper, or other record of the United States to the airport referred to in subsection (a) shall be considered to be a reference to the Donald J. Trump International Airport."

Among the bills sponsors include Reps. Michael Waltz of Florida, Andy Ogles and Chuck Fleischmann of Tennessee, Paul Gosar of Arizona, Barry Moore of Alabama and Troy Nehls of Texas.

"In 1998, Congress renamed the National Airport in Washington after one of our great presidents, Ronald Reagan," Moore told Fox News. "It is only fitting that we would do the same for another one of our greatest presidents, Donald J. Trump, especially as he stands against the onslaught of weaponized government to fight for Americans like us."

"I can see no more fitting recognition than naming both airports in our nation’s capital after America’s two best presidents: DCA after President Reagan and Dulles after President Trump," Gosar added.

While the bill may struggle to pass through the House, it will almost certainly meet a dead end in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

Various other airports across the U.S. have been named after former presidents. These include the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Many other politicians have also had terminals named in their honor, including the Harry Reid International Airport in Nevada, the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and the Norman Y. Mineta International Airport in San Jose. All these are named after individuals who represented the cities or states in which they were located.

Dulles International Airport, located in Fairfax County, Virginia, serves as a major international hub with around 25 million passengers every year, placing it as the 33rd most popular airport in the United States. It is named after John Foster Dulles, who was Secretary of State under President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and is known for its distinctive main terminal design.
