San Francisco School Goes Woke and Pays the Price

"Go woke, go broke" doesn't just apply to private businesses, and a San Francisco school is learning that the hard way. Glassbrook Elementary is paying $250,000 to an organization called "Woke Kindergarten" to "confront white supremacy."

The move was made to boost test scores and increase student attendance, problems which were blamed on "racism and oppression." The results have been abysmal.

A Hayward elementary school struggling to boost low test scores and dismal student attendance is paying $250,000 for an organization called Woke Kindergarten to train teachers to confront white supremacy, disrupt racism and oppression and remove those barriers to learning.

The Woke Kindergarten sessions train teachers on concepts and curriculum that’s available to use in classrooms with any of Glassbrook Elementary’s 474 students. The sessions are funded through a federal program meant to help the country’s lowest-performing schools boost student achievement.

But two years into the three-year contract with Woke Kindergarten, a for-profit company, student achievement at Glassbrook has fallen, prompting some teachers to question whether the money was well-spent given the needs of the students, who are predominantly low-income. Two-thirds of the students are English learners and more than 80% are Hispanic/Latino.

In the alter-universe that left-wingers reside in, everything, and I mean everything, can be blamed on racism. Low test scores? It couldn't possibly be a lack of proficiency by teachers and students choosing not to apply themselves. No, it must be racism. Kids not showing up for school because they'd rather run the streets? Racism. Heavy rain causing buses to be delayed? Believe it or not, also racism.

What a great excuse, right? Who needs actual personal responsibility when you can just claim everything is a form of oppression? The reality is that the low test scores at this school are almost certainly a result of bad teachers (shockingly, not made better by "Woke Kindergarten") and parents who have raised kids to not apply themselves. Those are the two things that should have been tackled when looking to fix the problem.

Instead, Glassbrook Elementry blew a quarter of a million dollars paying DEI scammers to make things worse.

The decision to bring in Woke Kindergarten, rather than a more traditional literacy or math improvement program, aligns with the belief by some parents and educators that the current education system isn’t working for many disadvantaged children.

The solution, these advocates say, is for educators to confront legacies of racism and bias in schools, and to talk about historic white supremacy, so that students feel safe and supported.

No, the solution is to stop being bad parents and educators. It's not a "legacy of racism and bias" that is stopping the students at the school from learning math. It's a lack of discipline, and that doesn't just appear. It has to be taught and enforced. Turning kids into perpetual victims, making excuses for their lack of effort, is how you end up turning them into dead-beats, or in some cases, criminals. There is no empathy in that. It's just a self-serving move to make left-wing adults feel better about themselves.

But hey, I guess this means more opportunity for the rest of us. For all the crying about "income inequality" that Democrats do, they are ensuring the gap continues to widen by purposely knee-capping a generation of students who won't have the skills to be successful.

By the way, this "Woke Kindergarten" program was paid for by federal funds, which means you paid for it. How does that make you feel?
