With Apologies to Governor Haley, Congressman Scott, and the South Carolina Press

This morning I made a dumb and careless mistake. Yesterday, at 11:20 a.m., about 40 minutes before the official announcement, Governor Haley and Congressmen Scott called me to give me an advanced notice of the announcement and let me ask questions. We chatted, according to my iPhone, for 8 minutes. For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you know two things — since Saturday my 7 year old and I have been the only Ericksons in our house spared a stomach bug and on Monday, I spent three arduous hours trying to buy my wife a sewing machine for her birthday, only to come home to a still sick son and wife. By the time I was home, I had trash bags to empty, a house to clean, a 7 year old to feed, still had a radio show to do for two hours, and failed to write about my conversation. So I decided to write it for this morning. I wrote the post Monday night before bed and knew it would be for today, so I put in “yesterday” instead of “today” for when I talked to them. Well, in doing the mentally exhaustive exercise of figuring out when that was after a day of cleaning up throw up, I wrote “Friday” instead of “Monday.”I got up at 4 a.m. to finalize the Morning Briefing, didn’t think twice about the post, and away it went to several hundred thousand people.By 1pm, the South Carolina press had noticed and reporters were demanding responses from Governor Haley’s office. It was my carelessness after an exhausting day. That’s what happened. There was no secret cover up or lies or anything like that — just a dumb mistake on my part after a lot of exhaustion set in and a lot of tenacious reporters today. My apologies to Governor Haley and Congressman Scott and their offices causing them a headache and to the South Carolina press for whipping them into a frenzy. It was my mistake and my fault entirely.
